VBCA Newsletter - October 2006

NEW EXECUTIVE MEMBERS.

Thank you to all who attended the AGM in August, and the meeting held on 9th September, 2006 to elect a vice president following the resignation of Paul Ravenarki.

New board members are Tim Mitchell Vice President, and Ty Atkinson 5th Executive member.

Welcome aboard guys.

NEW LANDSCAPE AND SHED.

Thanks to Peter North and Andrew we now have a new, water resistant shed for storing our gear, along with three of the eight storage cupboards we are being supplied at a very friendly price by EliteBuilt filing products.

I am hoping that at least one additional cupboard will be delivered today or tomorrow so all clubs will have lockable storage in new, larger cupboards than were in the previous shed.

The reason for the delivery being in dribs and drabs is that we are being supplied with scratch and dent stock and these will be delivered as they become available.

We are hoping that the terrace will be grassed in the next week or so with instant turf which is a new strain of Kaikuyu grass which will grow to be soft and lush.

We are in the process of investigating shade for both sides of the pavilion to make life more comfortable for players and spectators alike.

WORLD SIGHT DAY OCTOBER 12th.

Thanks to all those who have accepted my invitation to participate in the day to be held at the Junction Oval from 11.00am on October 12th.

A brief history of what World Sight Day is about is that we were approached by an organization called Vision2020, an international organization who promote services etc. for people with low vision, to conduct what they are calling a Publicity Stunt, showcasing Blind Cricket as one of many sports available to people with low vision.

There have been a number of Celebrities approached who are eager to take part in the day where a blind cricket match, probably an abridged version will be conducted at the Junction Oval on World Sight Day October 12th from 11.00am with the sole purpose of nationally publicizing low vision services, as well as Blind Cricket with strong NATIONAL media coverage.

Some of the participants on the Celebes side are Red Simons, Peter Rosethorn, Brian Henderson from ABC News and more.

Your assistance is required on Wednesday October 11th from 5.30am until about 8.30am as the Today show on Channel 9 want to do some publicity prior to World Sight Day and we require both players and as many spectators as we can muster for vision which will be screened behind the presenter at various times throughout the programme.

Please invite as many family and friends as possible to come along for the few hours as these two activities amount to some of the best nationwide publicity Blind Cricket has had, and maybe will have for some time and if we want to encourage players and officials alike, we need to ensure this works.

I will circulate separately details for entry point, and any public transport which may be available.

AFL GRAND FINAL.

We are conducting our second AFL Grand Final day on Saturday September 30th 2006 and ask that you support this function which will commence at 11.00am with a longest kick competition, as well as other competitions throughout the day.

As we have spent a considerable amount of money on improvements to the environs of the pavilion, and with the shading issue still to come, some successful fundraisers will be necessary to make the place comfortable and pleasant for all.

SEASON OPENING.

Our first games will be on Saturday October 7th 2006 commencing at 1pm, however, ALL players and officials are requested to be ready at 12.30 for a season opening.

After the game, there will be a function similar to the one held last year to which we would like to see as many players and families attend as possible to welcome in the new season.

Another similar information bulletin will be produced in a week or so to ensure everybody is well informed about World Sight Day and other activities.
