Round 3 - Burwood B.C.C. v St. Paul's B.C.C. - Day 2
Chasing what seemed a fairly routine total (118), based on recent batting performances, St. Paul's got off to a shaky start loosing opening batsman Glen Pierce for 2 when he was bowled by Scott Peucker followed by Tim Mitchell when he was bowled for 1 by David Goodman. After about 10 overs Burwood was in the hunt with the score at 2/15.
Incoming batsman Lindsay Heaven and St. Paul's Captain Brett Wilson then set about steadying the ship for St. Paul's. Brett combined with Lindsay for an excellent partnership, helping the batting side to 2/79 after about 25 overs. Brett was then bowled by Josh Morgan for 32. Shortly after Lindsay reached 40 in what was a balanced batting effort.
David Steeds and Chris Bertuch were quickly dismissed for low scores. Lalith Donikkuhewa then stepped up to the crease. Lalith displayed some fantastic hitting and quickly reached double figures.
At tea, St. Paul's were 6/118 and only needing 1 run to take first innings points. On the first ball after tea Lalith hit a single and St. Paul's achieved a 1st innings victory. Lalith was well supported by Bruce Sandilands and went onto the score 40. This was Lalith's second 40 in about 7 seasons.
In a remarkable bowling display at the end of the innings, Josh Morgan claimed a hat trick when he bowled Sam Byrnes, Justin Smit and Garry Stinchcombe.

Institute resumed at 6/19 against Glenferrie, chasing the visitors 144. Their innings was off to a bad start however, the Lions making the early breakthrough in just the 2nd over. Glenferrie made the momentum count, taking the wickets of the Institute tail order in quick succession, to leave the home side all-out 38, 106 short of Glenferrie's 144.
Chris Stevens was the best of the Glenferrie bowler's taking 3/9 off 7.2 overs while Ian Walsh was also dominant taking 2/4 off 8 overs.
Institute was sent into bat again and in what looked like to be an impossible position to prevent an outright victory to Glenferrie. The Lion's continued to dominate and dismissed Institute for 22 after only 13.1 overs. Rin Pas was top scorer for Institute scoring 11 runs.
Kevin Begg bowled with great composure and finished with 3/8 off 4 overs. Ian Walsh chipped in with 1/2 off 4 overs and Peter Hyzca 1/1 off 2.1 overs.

Round 3 - Burwood B.C.C. v St. Paul's B.C.C. - Day 1
Burwood keen to build on last week's outright win against Institute faced St. Paul's on Ground 1. Burwood lost the toss and Brett Wilson sent Burwood into bat. Despite missing Paul Ravenarki who was attending Derby Day, St. Paul's struck early when David Gauci was bowled by Garry Stinchcombe for 7. Scott Peucker and Chris Baille then set about consolidating the innings for Burwood. The pair combined for about a 50 run partnership. Chris Baille was eventually dismissed for 18 when he was bowled by David Steeds and Scott Peucker was run-out in a running mishap for 29.
The Burwood batsmen frustrated the St. Paul's bowlers by taking a conservative approach to their innings with the aim of lasting the entire 60 overs of their innings.
Burwood lifted the scoring rate later in the innings with Brian Talbot contributing 22 before he was run-out. Burwood ended their 1st innings at 60 overs with a score 6/118. The best of the St. Paul's bowlers were Garry Stinchcombe taking 1/20 (10 overs) and David Steeds 1/14 (10 overs).
St. Paul's will commence play on Day 2 chasing a 1st innings total of 118.
